Congratulations to St. John's Mavericks Varsity Wrestling team for winning the 2018 Texas Christian Academy (TCA) Invitational with a top team-score of 171 points. Liberty Christian finished second with 144.5 points. Seven Mavericks made it to the finals, three of which were champions (Layo Laniyan-145, Peter Chen-70, and Wesley Gow-285). Ten out of the eleven Maverick wrestlers competing in the varsity division received medals by placing in the top four in their weight classes. Wrestlers who defeated competitors from Texas Prep schools also garnered seeding criteria for the state tournament to be held at the end of January. The Mavericks are undefeated in 2018, winning their fourth consecutive War on the Floor duals 117-42 over Kinkaid. Earlier in the month St. John's defeated McKinney Christian, Bishop Dunne, St. Mark's, and Oakridge. The Mavericks almost won the State Duals, finishing runner-up for the second consecutive season.
