Lower School Arts

Visual

Lower School students have fun learning to creatively express themselves in a variety of media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, and sewing. Our main goal is to embrace the artist in every child, and to help them understand the importance of art throughout their life. As each child discovers that art is a process, not just a product, they are able to create work that reinforces their self-esteem.

Subject matter draws on each student's observation and imagination. Using basic elements and principles of design, many lessons are integrated with science, language, and social studies concepts to create a lively, interactive learning environment. Art from various cultures throughout time is also introduced through class and parent docents in the Art A La Carte Program.

Throughout the school year, student artwork is displayed in the Clare Attwood Glassell Gallery and throughout the Lower School. We also hold annual art shows—check the arts calendar to make sure you don't miss the next exhibit.
