Congratulations to Alex Jones '17 for signing a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play softball for the University of Houston. Jones, a senior captain, is the starting catcher for the Mavericks and bats in the cleanup spot, averaging .532 with five home runs. So far she has thrown out 19 runners since last season.
"This is a major accomplishment she has been seeking for years," said Head Coach Isis Barron-Hutchinson. "For other girls to see that Alex can achieve this goal and know that it is a possibility for them is special."
"I'm super excited," said Jones. "I hope this means that softball will get looked at more, and I am proud of everyone on the team and so happy that they came to support me."
Jones and the team were photographed holding up the signature Houston Cougar three-finger hand sign. Later that day they picked up their third conference win defeating St. Andrew's 10-0. Jones had one walk, one home run, and was 1.000 in fielding percentage, all counted on three fingers.
