Boys' Track and Field finished runner-up and Girls' Track and Field finished third at the 2015 SPC Championships held at All Saints' Episcopal School in Fort Worth.
Boys’ Track and Field took 2nd place at SPC led by Lee Hampton ’15 who won four individual SPC titles in the Long Jump, Triple Jump, 100m and 200m - breaking the school records in the Long Jump (22’10.5’’) and 100 meters (10.78 sec)!
“Lee had the best individual performance in my 31 years here,” said Head Coach Richie Mercado. "He had four individual titles and two records doing it, and ran 50.0 on 4x400 anchor (missed his 6th All-SPC medal by .04 seconds from the previous heat.”
“In order to run my best I need to have a strong drive and keep my form all the way through and not add any stress or over-drive myself,” said Hampton, who accounted for 46 out of 50 points in the meet.
The boys 4 x 800 team of Joe Faraguna ’16, Frank Spence ’15, Jake Schick ’17, and Akshay Jaggi ’15 finished 3rd, as hoped for by Spence the day before.
“I’m really excited for all of us, and the 4 x 800 is an opportunity to score points and if we can break into the top three that would be great, “ said Spence on Thursday reflecting on putting on a Maverick jersey for the last time.
Hunter Hasley ’16 placed 2nd in the Discus Throw. The boys 4x100 team of Toby Emiola ’16, Hampton, Ian Thakur ’18, and Chris Randall ’16 was 3rd. Randall was 3rd in the 110 Hurdles and 2nd in the 300 meter Hurdles. Jaggi also brook the school record in the 3200 meters when he finished 4th place in a time of 9:45:67.

Paine performed in six events: high jump- 6th place, long jump-2nd, 4 x 100 relay-4th, 4 x 400 relay anchor, 300 hurdles- 1st, 100 hurdles- 4th. The next highest scorer was Peyton Brown ’17 (21 points), who was second in the 3200 meters, and combined with Julia Moody ’15, Olivia Barboza ’18 , and Margaret Trautner ’16 to win the 4 x 800 Relay. Lillian Chen ’16 was 3rd in the 3200 meters, Peyton was 3rd in the 1600 meters, and Margaret was 2nd in the 800 meters. Katie Hasley ’17 was third in the Discus Throw, Alex Jones ’17 finished 3rd in the Shot Put, and sixth in the discus while wearing her softball uniform.
“Isabelle Paine is a rock,” said Mercado. “She came back from behind after a poor start and won the 300 hurdles and finished with an almost one second personal best.”
“Training in the season prepares me for multiple events so when it comes time for SPC I’m ready for it,” said Paine.
Ready these Mavericks were…some for their last athletic event for St. John’s, some for a personal best, and some for the record book. In the end, all of these Mavericks were ready to represent St. John’s with everything they had.
