William Trieschman '14 becomes the first St. John's Boys' lacrosse player to sign a National Letter of Intent.

William Trieschman '14, All-State and All-Conference Maverick goalie, singed a National Letter of Intent to play lacrosse for the Mercer Bears next year.  The 6' 5" senior is a three sport athlete at St. John's (volleyball, basketball, lacrosse).

"In a time of sport specialization, the number of three sport athletes at the high school level has decreased significantly,” said Athletic Director Vince Arduini. “However, William has committed himself to compete in three sports at a very rigorous academic environment like St. John's, which is no easy task.   I am very proud of what William has accomplished as a member of our school community.  Mercer University is getting a terrific student/athlete who will impact their Men's Lacrosse program and the college community as a whole.”

"I am so excited to have this opportunity," said William.

Trieschman started in 6th grade at St. John's.  He played safety in football in seventh grade before switching to volleyball, a sport in which he was also selected as all-conference.  He is now playing Varsity Basketball.

In his first two years of high school William played the back up role to starter Nate Whittle '12 (Williams College).  He also picked up a long stick to fill in the role of man down defender acting like a second goalie.

"William stuck to his long term goals of being the best he could be and getting to the next level," said Head Coach Sam Chambers '77.  "He did what he could in the back up role until it was his time to shine."

"When the time came for William’s sophomore season, we realized that we would have a very talented athlete looking at very little playing time," said goalie coach Charlie Gramatges '98.   He became an integral part of our man-down defense and a go-to defensive midfielder. Further William’s eyes opened to a new part of the game, giving him a creative advantage when returning to the cage to lead our program."

The Mavericks open up the 2014 season February 25th on Caven Field vs. Seven Lakes before traveling to Dallas to take on Southlake Carroll and Highland Park in the Patriot Cup.
