St. John's was at the forefront of the Positive Coaching Alliance's Triple-Impact Competitor Scholarship Awards Ceremony on Saturday, September 10th.
After the introduction by PCA Chair Sandy Bryan, Todd Freed, the emcee for the 2010 Maverick Athletic Awards Assembly, filled the Omni Hotel ballroom with his familiar quips and humor.  Douglas Berkman ('11) and Ned Lu ('11), both nominees for the scholarship, were joined by Maverick Lacrosse Coach Angie Kensinger on center stage.  Lu, a varsity tennis and soccer player, was one of twenty eight Scholarship Award Finalists.  Berkman, fresh off a fine performance at receiver and linebacker on Friday night on Lee Field, hauled in another catch by winning the "Star Tex Power" Scholarship.  Kensinger received the PCA Double-Goal Coaching Award, while St. John's former student Scott Disch, won the Scotty Zornes Coaching Award.

Kensinger, a key cog in the development of South Texas Girls' Lacrosse, has coached St. John's to 8 state, and 7 SPC crowns in her 15 year tenure.  Disch, the son of former St. John's Field Hockey coach, Cathy Disch, coaches baseball and basketball at Grady Middle School.  The Bryan family has multiple ties to St. John's.   Sandy's husband, Dr. Bill Bryan, is the Varsity Football team physician.  Their children David, Kyle, Travis, Sarah, and Cody all attended St. John's.
