While the 2011 Varsity
finished the month with 3 victories on the last two days of April to win their 7th
SPC crown, Maverick college players showed they still have it too!
April ended well for St. John’s alum, Kate Donnelly (’07),
who captained Washington and Lee
to 8 consecutive wins to finish out the regular season for the Generals. W&L won their last regular season game by a score of 22-1 over Randolph and started May with an ODAC semi-final win over Virginia Wesleyan. They will play Roanoke, a team they beat 17-10 early in the season, on May 8th
for the conference championship.
On April 24th Allison Bland’s (’07) Sewanee Tigers
won the inaugural SCAC conference championship over Colorado College 14-11. Bland, a captain, was selected to the All-SCAC
team and led the conference in assists.
University of Texas Women’s lacrosse was also dominating in April. They beat SMU for the Texas State Club title. Kaitlin Bahr (’09)
was named Offensive MVP and Clayton Crum (’08)
was named tournament MVP. Lacey Rybarczk (’10)
played for SMU in defeat. Crum was recently announced as a US Lacrosse WCLA All-American
for 2011. All four are in Scottsdale, Arizona for the WCLA National Championships.
As Bland, Donnelly, Crum, Bahr and Rybarczk stay mighty in May, the 2011 Mavericks took out #1 seed Cy-Fair for their consecutive State crown in Houston.
"Thanks to all of our awesome fans who made it out on Saturday and Sunday," said Coach Kensinger.
