St. John's 2010 Varsity Maverick Football team was nominated for the 2011 TD Club Sportsmanship award.

The 6th Annual Sterling Bank High School Sportsmanship Luncheon, was held this past Thursday, January 27th at the JW Marriott (Galleria). St. John’s was one of five finalists from the Class 3A and private school pool which was voted on by area football officials.  Teams were judged not just on their players’ actions, but on the overall game atmosphere which included fans, parents, spirit team, and honor of the American flag. When the winner was announced as St.... Thomas, Coach Gleaves thought it would be St.....John's.  "We thought we had won it, and we were very derserving.  It was a first class event all the way around with 40 head coaches, their captains, and 200 people in attendance," said Steve Gleaves.  "We were there because of the leadership from our captains and players on the field.  They represented St. John's NOT WITHOUT HONOR.  This is an attest to the character of the school as a whole.  I couldn't be more proud of the team."
