Plan lessons and instruct students in the Classics curriculum (all levels of Latin, and Ancient Greek) for grades 9-12; Design and deliver lessons to a variety of class sizes; Create assignments and assessments to evaluate students'; progress towards language proficiency according to National Standards; Compose regular academic progress reports and summative semester comments to update parents on students ' performance; Meet regularly with individual students to help them develop effective critical thinking and problem solving skills; Prepare students for national standardized tests (National Latin Exam, Advanced Placement Latin Exam, etc.); Integrate new technologies in the classroom by making use of various digital tools and resources to accommodate different learning styles; Sponsor Classics-related Clubs engaging in Latin and Ancient Greek culture activities; Organize and lead trips to extracurricular Classics events (e.g. Junior Classical League Area and State Conventions); Collaborate with other faculty to integrate Latin into interdisciplinary projects or school-wide events; Stay current on best practices in language teaching and classical studies by engaging in professional development; Develop and enforce classroom rules and administrative policies; Supervise students outside of the classroom, i.e. during lunchtime or detention; Serve as an advisor to a group of students, offering academic guidance, and cultivating social-emotional learning; and serve on academic committees as assigned. In order to perform the above tasks, the following experience and skills are required: Proficiency with Latin, and Ancient Greek; Experience with advanced syntax and morphology of Latin and Ancient Greek; Experience with critical analysis of ancient literary and historical texts (e.g. Greek tragedy, Roman epic, Latin historiography); Experience with the following pedagogical techniques: Comprehensible Input, Communicative methods, Immersive Language instruction, and Project-based learning; Experience with the following digital teaching tools: Peardeck, Nearpod, Blooket, Gimkit, EdPuzzle; Experience with Latin and Ancient Greek curriculum development according to National standards; Experience delivering interactive and student-centered instruction with an understanding of the influence of Classical history, mythology, and culture on the modern world; Experience with learning management systems (LMS), specifically Blackbaud and Google Classroom; Experience with Smartboard technology. Requires a Master's degree or foreign equivalent in Classical Philology (Latin & Ancient Greek) or related field, and at least 3 years of experience as an Upper School Teacher or related occupation.
