Mavericks beat Dolphins 5-2

The Mavericks traveled to AOS to take on the Dolphins in the second game of the season. The size of the AOS field only allowed 9 v 9 play instead of the traditional 11 v 11. The game started off close as the Mavericks adjusted to playing with only 8 field players. The quick pace of the game quickly became a challenge for the midfield line. However, after 6 minutes of play the ball found the goal. Cameron passed the ball to Lizzy E. who quickly put the ball in the goal. Soon after, Lizzy F. scored a goal on a breakaway 1 v1 shot against the goalie. Before the half, Sydney tallied her first goal for the Mavericks in her first game of the season, which was assisted by Lizzy F.

After half time, the Mavericks took the field feeling confident and composed. The Maverick defense played well against the Dolphin offense who came out hungry for a goal. However, when defenders were unable to clear the ball from the defensive circle the Dolphins took advantage with their first goal of the game. After a quick recovery, Lizzy F. scored a goal with a beautiful reverse hit. As the second half wore on, the Mavericks got sluggish and began to feel fatigued. AOS again took advantage and scored their second goal off a scramble in the defensive circle. However, the Mavericks answered quickly with a goal of their own. Mary Pat scored off a nice flick shot, making the final score of the game 5-2.
