The Mavericks season opener came against an always dominant Iron Maiden squad. After an initial 10 or so shakey minutes, the Mavericks finally found their composure. they were able to shake off an early 4-1 deficit and come back with strong defense and a confident attack to overcome Cy Fair with a convincing 10-6 victory. Franklin led scoring with 3 goals, followed by Hines, Diaz, and Pendergraft with 2 each and Hawley with 1. Passing throughout the field was excellent, with assists coming from Dawson, Nasser and Herbert, among others. Solid defense rounded out the victory with help from Schierman, Newar, Lewis and Fosburgh. Goalie Burkett did an excellent job with some key saves. Ex-newbies, and now, almost seasoned vets MacNaughton, Paterson and Bailey all played with poise and confidence, and were an integral part in the Mavs first victory of the season.
