Clint Everts Announced as Interim Director of Baseball/Head Varsity Coach for 2017/18

Congratulations to Coach T Riley for his upcoming new role as Director of Athletics and Wellness for St. Francis Episcopal School for the 2017/18 school year.  The Maverick Baseball program has made significant developments under his nine year tenure as head coach. His departure from the St. John's community is our loss and St. Francis' gain. Stepping in to serve as the Interim Director of Baseball/Head Varsity Coach for the 2017/18 school year is Clint Everts, who has been a member of our coaching staff at St. John's for three years.

Coach Everts has done a phenomenal job as both an Assistant Coach at the Varsity level, where he has worked with our pitching staff, and the MS level where he has served in many capacities developing our younger players. He has an extensive baseball background beginning at the high school level where he attended Cypress Falls High School, where he pitched alongside Scott Kazmir.  Clint was drafted by the Montreal Expos in the first round as the fifth player selected overall in the 2002 Major League Draft.  He was rated as a top-100 prospect by Baseball America prior to the 2003 and 2004 seasons. Clint pitched in the Expos and Washington Nationals farm system until he signed a major league contract with the New York Mets prior to the 2010 season.  In 2010, Clint was traded to the Toronto Blues to complete a previous trade which sent Jorge Padilla to the New York Mets affiliate, Buffalo Bisons.  Clint's best season came in 2009, when he split time in high A, AA, and AAA for the Washington Nationals and combined to go 8-1 with a 1.65 ERA in 44 games.  Clint completed his minor league career with a 41-46 record and a 4.1- ERA in 341 games.

He will inherit a program which encompasses five total programs from MS through our Varsity program. Our players and coaches will benefit immensely from Clint's extensive baseball background.  Prior to assuming his new duties on July 1, Clint will continue his work with our program through the month of June in addition to our summer program.

The SJS community wishes Coach Riley and his family the very best with the upcoming move to St. Francis. His loyal and professional service to the school will be missed.
