Bashen is Back! Austin, TX: Gators Gone but Horns Too Sharp

Sam Chambers
Purdue volleyball player, Blair Bashen ('07), was back in Texas a little early for the holidays.   Her Boilermakers just swept #1 seed Florida on Friday and almost pushed a game 5 against the Longhorns in the Elite Eight NCAA Volleyball championship.
Blair Bashen returned to her home state with the Purdue Womens Volleyball team.

Bashen and the Boilermakers swept #1 seed Florida on Friday and led the University of Texas Longhorns early Saturday night, but the home court advantage was too much to overcome against Texas.

"We played really well last night (Friday)," said Bashen.  "We just need to stay with our game plan.  The challenge for us is to compete against a good Texas team on Texas' court."

Clayton Crum ('08) was on hand Friday night cheering for her former teammate, but Saturday's game was a different story for Crum.   Clayton played for the Longhorns her freshman year and went to the Final Four with Texas only to lose to Stanford in the championship game.  The Boilermakers, with one less fan in the stands, needed to tune out the home crowd in order to have a chance to advance to the final four in Kansas City, December 16-18.

"I want UT to win and for Blair to play well," said Crum.   "My former teammates will be on the floor and I will be pulling for them, but I don't envy the amount of work and commitment that they have gone through to get here.
I switched to club lacrosse and my college experience is more balanced now.  It should be a great game and a packed gym."
