Anticipating a fast and hard fought game on Kinkaid turf, the Maverick Ladies of 7th Grade came out with an intensity that, once again, shocked the opponents and their coaches! Now a team trademark, the girls scored within the first minute of play. If only we had filmed right wing Lindsey McKone's textbook crossing pass to Mary Pat Patrizi who made a BEAUTIFUL first goal! The neighbors might be writing to complain about the HUGE thud in that Kinkaid goal. Glad you are on our side, MP! The team used the speed of the turf to spread out and make picture perfect passes and our short corner plays could have challenged any team in town. With numerous corners called during the game, our girls were able to display our wide range of corner plays taking full advantage of the speed of the Falcon turf. Lindsey McKone and Gracie Firestone may go down in history for the variety and execution of their corner plays!
Our defense, Brooke Kushwaha, scrappy Lizzy Ellison and Riley Marsh all kept the ball in Kinkaid territory for the first half. Gage Williams repeatedly stopped Kinkaid’s efforts to cross the 50 yard line. Isabelle Draper utilized channeling techniques to force the plays to the SJS strong side. The midfield and defense made picture perfect plays that combined timing, teamwork and fearlessness to keep the Mavericks in total control of the second half. After a first half as goalie, Jennifer Trieschman came out raring for a goal and, after one near miss, scored from the right wing with a thud that shook the houses next door! Congratulations, girls, for another 2-0 win!
