Gagel's Score a First in Final Game of Collegiate Career
Andy Gagel (SJ '06) scored his first collegiate goal on Saturday against Brown University. He put Dartmouth on the board for the Big Green's first score of the day, but it was not enough as the Bears prevailed in overtime and moreover, bumped Dartmouth out of the Ivy League tournament.
On Saturday Dartmouth Lacrosse Captain Andy Gagel got his first goal of his four year career against the Brown Bears. Unfortunately for Gagel, and fellow captain, Chris Root (SJ'06) this would be their last collegiate game as the Bears prevailed and nabbed the last spot in the Ivy tournament.
Gagel, a close defender, rarely sees the offensive half of the field but took advantage of the opportunity on a clear. In 2004 Gagel was in a similar situation for the Mavericks playing in Baltimore on spring break.
St. John's was getting hammered by St. Paul's and looked to be shut out, but #34 picked up a loose ball, crossed the midfield line, and got the ball into the net for the only tally on the day for St. John's.
"The goal (on Saturday) was memorable because it was my first collegiate goal," said Andy. "I'd have to say that it was probably more memorable than the St. Paul's goal because of the importance of the game, and it being my last game in my career. Even though we lost, it'll be a game I'll never forget. It's been a fun ride that I wouldn't trade in for anything."
