Mavericks drop 47th cross-town rivalry game to Knights.
St. John's and Episcopal faced off for the 47th time last night.  In geologic time, the present is the key to the past.  Recent formations and environments of deposition help explain the similar templates of strata laid down millions of years ago.  In the modern era of Texas High School lacrosse the present performance of the Mavericks parallels a meandering stream sometimes overflowing, sometimes needing more of a source.
Last night on Simmons Field, St. John's had the flow even though they were down 2-0 early.  Blake Upchurch scored 2 emo goals to tap the offense, and what momentum the Knights piled up early, was turning red at the end of the first half.  St. John's cut the lead to 5-4 on goals by Jordan Schuler assisted from Chris Gow, and William Payne assisted by Reed Daniel.  With 17 seconds in the period however, Michael Lintner picked off one of many passes on the night and assisted Max Hutson for a 2 goal advantage turning the tide back in Episcopal's favor.
The third period was a drought for St. John's, and a telling twelve minutes that seemed like an eon, as The Knights picked up more gb's, won more face offs, and outscored St. John's 5-0.  Nate Whittle's 11 saves for the game and Reed Daniel's flurry of three goals at the end gave St. John's some solace in what could be pay dirt waiting to be discoverd in a full 48 minutes of the "Creator's game."
St. John's (1-1 SPC) travels to St. Andrew's Austin (1-0 SPC) for a 6:30 p.m. face off on Friday night.
