Solid Times at HCHS

Coach Mary Daniel

Highlights of the HCHS Invitational

This past Saturday found the Mavericks at the Houston Christian High Invitational. All week long Coach Daniel had been getting up dates and caveats on the rapidly growing meet. A long start line was promised for all! Thankfully, the threatened chaos never materalized.

The Mavericks ran well over the 1.5 mile course. Everyone clocked a season’s best.

The 8th grade boys raced first. Although they were missing key players—Bland and Caplan were sick and Melcher was injured—the team managed to finish in 7th place in a field of 146 runners.

The team was led by Gonzalez who turned in a time of 9:02, Peacock ran a 9:22, Fastow ran a 10:55, Clutterbuck ran a 10:56, Chen came in in 11:10, and Donaldson ran a 12:43.

Our girls team competed in the 8th grade division. They ran immediately after the 8th grade boys’ start. The girls’ team was handicapped by the absence of Rauf, but that did not deter them from racing well and turning in solid times. Harvey was our top runner this week, turning in a time of  10:02. She was followed by Galli who turned in  a season best of 11:36, in spite of running sore the past few weeks. Flood was next with a time of 12:06. Melcher ran a 12:12, Margolis ran a 13:25, Hurtado-Ramos ran a 13:26, and Jamail came in in 14:40. Our girls also finished in 7th place in a field of 102 runners.

Our 7th Grade Boys team really distinguished themselves. The team showed up healthy and ready to go. At the start, they were joined by 150 other runners. Kramer finished in 6th place with a time of 9:18, Spence was 15th with 9:44, Bieser was 24th with 9:54, Cherches 35th with 10:18 with Davis right with him, finishing 36th with a time of 10:19. Henning followed with a time of 10:27, Philippe—10:52, Charania—11:14, Wallace—11:16, Friedman—12:12, and Flowers—14:33.

Their score of 123 secured 3rd place for the squad.

Congratulations to all of our Mighty Mavericks! We look forward to watching them compete as a solid, healthy team; which will hopefully be on Thursday, October 8 when we compete in the Kinkaid Invitational at Buffalo Bayou Park at 4:30.
