Tigers take advantage of Maverick miscues for win

The Mavericks lost a tough game to TAPPS 6A powerhouse St. Agnes Friday evening 9-3.  St. Agnes is one of the top 10 schools in the Houston Area and is defending 6A state champion.  Despite those numbers the Mavericks jumped on the Tigers eary when lead-off batter Nora Niebruegge went yard on the second pitch of the game to stake the team to an early one run lead.
The Tigers took advantage of one of six miscues by the Mavericks in the game in the bottom half of the inning scoring three runs.  The Mavericks scratched across their other run after Lizzy Padhi scored on a single to left field by Laura Burdine.  Lizzy got on by taking one for the team on the forearm and was moved to third on a hit by Emily Cain before Laura's shot.
St. John's had 10 hits on the day, their third highest total for the season.  Emily Cain had a double and Regan Rau had a triple and scored a run as well.  In addition, Regan threw out her 9th baserunner on the season against 13 attempts.
Nora was 3 for 4 on the day with an rbi and a stolen base.  VA Waldrop had two hits as well.
The Mavericks have to really knuckle down on defense as they face the most important part of their season this next week.  They play 5 South Zone games in three days beginning with the Crusaders from St. Andrew's at home on Thursday at 5:00pm
