Mavericks Move on to City Semi's After Close Call Against SFE

The Mavericks were slow to respond to an aggressive attack mounted in the first half by the Lady Wolves, and trailed at half time 4-7.  After the ten minute break though, the team found their groove.  The defense (Burkett, Scheirman, Fosburgh, Mellor-Crummey, Romefelt, Newar) held SFE to only 3 second half goals, while the attack maintained their composure and slowly chipped away at the Wolves' lead with smart passing and feeds in front of the goal.  With the score tied at 9 and then at 10 with only a couple of minutes left in the game, the Mavs finally pulled out in the lead and were able to run down the clock with smart possession play.  Lindsay Patterson scored a key goal late in the game, as did Caroline Dawson (2 total) who also had a key assist on a free position. Cary Hines (2 goals) also scored late in the game, and Catherine Franklin who scored 5 total, ended up with the game winner.  Olivia Herbert scored as well and helped Diaz, Hawley and MacNaugton in the midfield in the second half play tight defense.  The homes all pressured SFE on defense in the second half, all of which led to a 7-3 second half margin which made the difference in this hard fought game.  The Mavs move to the Semi's which will be played at home at 6:15 Wednesday against the winner of ROB and Clear Lake..
