MAVERICKS RACE TO CURE!

Hook
The Mavericks had several outstanding performances today at the Race for the Cure. Running a longer race distance than they've run all season, the Mavericks showed their enduring strength in completing this race with high honors. Earning age group awards were representatives from the Freshman, Sophomore and Junior Class. Kaleta Johnson was the champion of her age group and set the pace for the rest of the team. Sophomore Emily Watkins, back in stride, ran a strong race and captured 2nd in the 15-19 age group. Young Varsity Maverick up and comer, Kate Bleakley ran a strong race with a driving kick to cross the line 3rd in her age group. In the 15-19 division, we captured 1,2,4,7,9,10,11, 12, 20,21,23,28,34 - dominating this age group. Special kudos to Kaleta for being the #2 finisher among SPC runners in this race, she was only :23 behind last week's Rice meet individual champion, Madeline S from KHS. Awesome domino effect by Maverick runners Watkins, Bleakley and Brown who did a great job of trimming their time spread this week - only 16 seconds separated these three strong runners for SJS. Way to push yourselves and stay focused on each other throughout the race! Two individuals had great PR performances for this race: Captain Amanda Hassler and Kathryn Benavides. Captain Hassler is a repeat meet PR-er, she is 4 for 4 in Meet PRs this season - amazing consistent improvement!! Kathryn Benavides had a HUGE meet PR over last year's performance; she bettered her time by more than 5:30!!! Many terrific performances by the Mavericks in the Race for the Cure! Thanks to Mrs. Bahr for coordinating our transportation to the race today and for promoting running for a great cause in the entire SJS community!!
