Theater Manager/Technical Director and Middle School Theater Teacher (starting August 2023)

St. John’s is seeking a talented and knowledgeable Technical Theater Director and Middle School Theater Teacher. In addition to relevant experience and a strong educational background, successful candidates must demonstrate a passion for working with students, an engaging teaching style, and a commitment to developing the whole child and furthering the School’s mission, including its strategic initiatives on community and inclusion. St. John’s seeks educators who are innovative and reflective, open to feedback, and eager for professional collaboration.
Primary Responsibilities:
Oversee technical direction for theatrical productions
Lead a team of designers and technicians on assigned productions
Construct sets for Lower, Middle and Upper School productions
Collaborate in the design and implementation of sets, lighting, and sound for all theater, music, and dance productions
Manage technical schedules for Lower, Middle and Upper School productions
Allocate technical support for all activities in performance spaces
Regularly attend weekend crew calls and supervise Johnnycake student members
Attend designer runs, technical rehearsals, and additional rehearsals as needed by the director of the production
Monitor performance areas and scene shop for safety and organizational considerations
Afterschool, evening and weekend hours are expected
Teach (1) Middle School general theater class
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts or related field
Minimum of 3 years of experience in technical theater production and theater instruction
