Senior Parade Celebration

During a normal school year, the last week of school would be filled with longstanding traditions, end-of-year celebrations, and diplomas for seniors. Unfortunately, the School had to postpone the Baccalaureate and Commencement celebrations in light of the pandemic. However, that did not keep SJS faculty and staff from celebrating the remarkable Class of 2020.

On what would have been their graduation day, seniors were invited to participate in a parade celebration through campus. Friends, family, and anyone else who could fit in the car were also invited to attend. Upon arriving at Gate 1, cars were greeted with signs, balloons, cowbells, and cheers from faculty and staff. The cars were decorated with streamers, posters, and messages recognizing the seniors inside them. Not only did the parade provide an opportunity to celebrate the Class of 2020, but it also gave seniors a chance to wave, smile, honk, and see each other and the faculty members in person from a safe distance.

Once the cars reached the circle drive, they were each given a grad bag filled with special mementos from the School. First, the Jefferson Cup, a timeless keepsake given to St. John's graduates each year to honor the mentorship of faculty, the durability of their spirit and character, and their readiness to apply their knowledge. The bag also included their cap and gown with a reminder to hang it up and wear it when they meet again in August. As a sweet moment of nostalgia, they were given a slice of the famous yellow cake from the SJS Food Services team. Finally, each bag included The Review's Graduation Special 2020, a limited edition for seniors.

Congratulations to the Class of 2020! We look forward to celebrating you in August.
