  • K-12 Service Opportunity (September 20)

    Our K-12 Service Day at the Houston Food Bank is coming up, and sign-up is open! Join us from 8am until 12pm on September 20th at the Houston Food Bank for a day of service together as one community! Sign up with the Food Bank here. If you have previously served with the Houston Food Bank, you can register using your account. If you have never attended a volunteer event at the Houston Food Bank, please make sure to register first. All volunteers (minors and adults) must register separately for this volunteer event.
  • LS Night at the Football Game (September 12)

    Please save the date for Lower School Night at the varsity football game on Friday, September 12th! The gathering will begin at 6:00 under Big Red. Bring your own picnic - blankets, food, & drinks. Each grade level will have a clearly designated spot where you can meet other families as you arrive. The game begins at 7:00pm.
  • Maverick Madness Spirit Day (September 12)

    Our first Maverick Madness Spirit Day will be on Friday, September 12th. Students may wear as much red, black, and SJS gear as possible, or they may wear their normal uniform. Please see page 31 of the Lower School Handbook for specific guidelines for out-of-uniform dress.
  • Picture Day (September 9)

    Individual pictures will be taken on Tuesday, September 9th. Please make sure your child is aware and takes care of their appearance. They may wear any Lower School uniform of their choice.
  • Social-Emotional Learning

    During the month of September, our Sharing Circle topics will focus on relationship skills and self/social awareness. Three of our topic threads are focused on learning about our Lower School theme- Creation, what it means to Live the St. Johns Way, and using “I Statements and recognizing emotions. Please be sure to check your student's grade level page for additional resources and table talk discussion questions. 

    We will discuss our Lower School theme, Creation, and what it means to Live the St. John's Way, including using and understanding “I Statements” and recognizing emotions.

    Table Talk Discussions: 
    • What does “Living the St. John’s Way” mean to you? Give an example of how this important phrase can be put into practice.
    • Name the emotions that you felt throughout the day. How do those specific emotions make you feel? Why is it important for others to understand your emotions and for you to understand theirs?
    • Share what you have learned about our LS theme: Creation!
