You do not need a ticket to attend Commencement. The purpose of holding Commencement outdoors is to increase the opportunity for all families and their guests to attend this most significant ceremony.

Senior Lot parking will be reserved for our graduates and Gate 1 will be open only for those in need of accessible parking (there will be no general parking available in the Chute, Circle, or underground). All other parking lots on campus will be open. In the event of rain, the Lower School parking lot (via Gate 4 on Westheimer) will be reserved for accessible parking only.

Shuttles will be circulating through the various parking lots to transport guests who prefer not to walk. The shuttles will run from approximately 5:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Accessible Seating and Parking for Commencement

Guests who will be using accessible parking should enter through Gate 1 on Claremont Lane and then will be directed to the appropriate parking location.

While we will not have a designated area reserved for accessible seating, there will be seating available in Flores Hall (with livestream coverage playing) as well as along the covered walkway alongside Flores Hall.

Inclement Weather
If there is inclement weather, Commencement will be held in the gym. Chairs will be set up in addition to use of the bleachers. There will be additional seating in the Lowe Theater of the VST where the livestream of the event will be shown. More detailed information about inclement weather plans will be communicated closer to the date of Commencement if in fact the weather forecast is not favorable.

2026 Commencement Speaker: John Allman Educational Consultant

From 1998 until 2009, John Allman served as Headmaster at St. John’s School, and with his spouse, Michele, parented three St. John’s students -- John (SJS ’09), Brooks (SJS ’11), and Henry (SJS ’15) —along with two SJS dogs, Rebel and Maverick. John began his career teaching English and coaching several sports at his alma mater, the Lovett School in Atlanta. Following graduate school at the University of Virginia, he taught and coached at St. Mark’s School of Texas in Dallas, becoming chair of its English Department in 1990. Like SJS’s current head of school, John also served as Upper School Head at Lovett prior to his arrival in Houston. While in Dallas, on a blind date arranged by the Headmaster at St. Mark’s, he met and eventually married Michele, also a proud independent school graduate (Hockaday). After his tenure at St. John’s, he travelled to Manhattan’s Trinity School to serve as Head of School from 2009 until 2024. Currently an educational consultant, he and Michele reside on the eastern end of Long Island, choosing to live near the two sons who live and work in New York City.
