Physical Education Teacher & Varsity Coach (Field Hockey / Girls Lacrosse) (starting August 2026)
Position Summary
The School seeks a full-time Physical Education Teacher who will also serve as a Varsity Field Hockey Assistant Coach and Girls Varsity Lacrosse Assistant Coach. This position plays an integral role in advancing the School’s mission by supporting the intellectual, physical, and character development of students. The successful candidate will be a collaborative educator and coach who values relationship-building, student well-being, leadership development, and a consistent, mission-aligned culture across academics and athletics.
Design and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate, and standards-based physical education instruction
Foster lifelong habits of fitness, wellness, teamwork, and personal responsibility
Create and sustain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
Develop lesson plans aligned with departmental curriculum and School-wide goals
Assess, document, and communicate student progress in alignment with School expectations
Provide effective classroom management and appropriate student supervision
Collaborate with colleagues across departments and divisions to support the whole child
Participate fully in faculty life, including meetings, professional development, and community events
Uphold and model the School’s mission, values, and expectations
Varsity Coach Coaching Responsibilities (Field Hockey & Girls Lacrosse):
Collaborate with the Head Coaches to plan and implement practices, competition preparation, and player development aligned with the School’s mission and athletic philosophy
Provide instruction in sport-specific skills, tactics, and strategies appropriate to the varsity level
Support game planning, scouting, film review, and performance evaluation
Supervise student-athletes during practices, contests, travel, meetings, and team activities
Promote a positive, inclusive, and competitive environment emphasizing sportsmanship, leadership, accountability, and character
Assist with equipment management, uniforms, and program resources
Support offseason training, camps, strength and conditioning, and community engagement opportunities
Ensure consistency in communication, expectations, and program culture within each sport
Maintain timely, professional, and thoughtful communication with students, families, colleagues, and athletic leadership
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or a related field
Demonstrated commitment to adolescent development and independent school education
Ability to work collaboratively within a mission-driven, student-centered community
Preferred:
Coaching experience in Field Hockey and/or Girls Lacrosse at the high school or collegiate level
Experience coaching a specific position group or unit
Knowledge of strength and conditioning principles and athlete wellness
CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
