Upper School In-House Substitute and Substitute Coordinator (starting August 2026)
St. John’s is seeking an organized and reliable in-house substitute teacher in the Upper School (grades 9-12). In addition to relevant experience and a strong educational background, successful candidates must demonstrate a passion for working with high school-age students, an engaging personality, and a commitment to developing the whole child and to furthering the School’s mission, including its strategic initiatives on community and inclusion.
Primary Responsibilities include:
Ensuring that all Upper School faculty absences are covered either through internal coverage or with an outside substitute
Managing the Master Substitute Calendar to track all absences
Serving as the primary option for coverage for any absences
Contacting outside substitutes when necessary
Coordinating with the Head of Upper School and Department Chairs when internal coverage is necessary
Being on campus the entire academic day, 7:45 am - 3:35 pm
Communicating all pertinent details of coverage to substitutes (i.e. room number, schedule, lesson plans, etc.)
Contributing to the broader life of the school (i.e. athletics, academic life, student life)
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree
Teaching or coaching experience preferred
