Upper School In-House Substitute and Substitute Coordinator (starting August 2026)

St. John’s is seeking an organized and reliable in-house substitute teacher in the Upper School (grades 9-12). In addition to relevant experience and a strong educational background, successful candidates must demonstrate a passion for working with high school-age students, an engaging personality, and a commitment to developing the whole child and to furthering the School’s mission, including its strategic initiatives on community and inclusion.

Primary Responsibilities include:
  • Ensuring that all Upper School faculty absences are covered either through internal coverage or with an outside substitute
  • Managing the Master Substitute Calendar to track all absences
  • Serving as the primary option for coverage for any absences
  • Contacting outside substitutes when necessary
  • Coordinating with the Head of Upper School and Department Chairs when internal coverage is necessary
  • Being on campus the entire academic day, 7:45 am - 3:35 pm 
  • Communicating all pertinent details of coverage to substitutes (i.e. room number, schedule, lesson plans, etc.)
  • Contributing to the broader life of the school (i.e. athletics, academic life, student life)
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Teaching or coaching experience preferred
