Coach Sam Chambers announces that this will be his final season
Coach Sam Chambers '77 announced plans to step down as Head Varsity Boys' Lacrosse Coach at the conclusion of the 2016 season. Since 1992, Coach Chambers has successfully guided the Maverick Lacrosse program and has produced outstanding results, including two Texas State titles, one SPC Championship, and 11 State Final-Four Championship play-off appearances. Widely considered one of the founding fathers of the sport in the state of Texas, Coach Chambers' involvement in youth, middle school, and high school lacrosse helped build the foundation for the sport to become the fastest-growing athletic activity in the state.
Coach Chambers will continue to serve on the athletic department staff at St. John's and will remain an integral part of developing the lacrosse program, not only at St. John's, but throughout the city, state, and region.
The timing of this announcement provides the School with the opportunity to engage in a national search for his replacement. To that end, the School will be employing the services of The Finney Search Group, a firm based out of Baltimore, Maryland, which specializes in the placement of coaches at the country's leading independent schools.
This spring, we look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of Coach Chambers and making his last season as Head Varsity Coach a special one – both for him and the players.
