7th Boys VB Wins Tourney Championship!!!

Ursula Quoyeser
The 7th grade boys volleyball team captured the championship in the Houston Ivitational Tournament on Saturday.  The Mavericks won the championship match behind the final 3 crucial serves from Jon Armstrong.  Serving proved to be the Mavericks strength throughout the tournament as they defeated AOS, Greenhill twice, and Kinkaid twice.
Crucial net play by Dominick Verstovsek, Chris Gsell, Andrew Jing and Jon Armstrong along with many spike attempts by Andrew kept St. John's opponents on their toes.

Lead off server Emery Mintz served tremendously in the number one spot.  He always managed to help the team get off to a strong start.  Emery also had a crucial serve receive in the finals that kept Kinkaid from getting a service run with their top server.

Dominick played fearless throughout the day making many service runs of 4 or more points at a time and also setting Andrew up for many spike attempts.  Robert Royce came on strong with his serving in the semi-finals and finals with more than 15 service points.

Chris, Jon and Dominick did a super job setting to their teammates. Robert, Devon Lehoti, Daniel Lebron, Connor Eichenwald and Reed Newell all did a great job for the team coming off the bench during the matches and helping the team to maintain its intensity and drive.
