In Upper School arts, emphasis is placed on the visualization of ideas, development of originality and craftsmanship and presentation of the completed artwork. After passing the pre-requisite course, Art Fundamentals, students can dive into a wide range of classes to suit their interests, including Ceramics, Urban Design and Multimedia.
All courses enable students to build fundamental knowledge and skill-sets in a variety of techniques, from painting and drawing to ceramic glazing and firing, architecture and urban planning, visualization, and printmaking. In addition, students may elect to take Art History courses that focus on aesthetics, art appreciation, the principles of design and a critical analysis of art forms, pre-historic through modern times. For complete descriptions of all classes, visit the Course Book.
Student artwork can be seen on display throughout the school year in the Virginia Stuller Tatham Fine Arts Center and around the Upper School Campus. Plus, we hold several annual exhibits—please visit the arts calendar to learn about any upcoming events.
