Dance

Middle School Dance introduces and expands students' understanding of anatomical principles, fundamentals of movement, and beginning dance terminology. Students develop the techniques of breath control, relaxation, stretching, and strengthening, while increasing their personal range of motion, exploration of three-dimensional space, and awareness of injury prevention. Choreographic skills are introduced, and by Class 8, students are participating in small group, improvisational movement projects.

Each dance class culminates in the performance of student choreographed group pieces. Students also perform throughout the year at various school events.

There are two dance ensembles that perform in the Spring Middle School Dance Concert: Impulse 8, which is a year-long graded class, and Impulse 7, which meets two carriers in the last two trimesters of the Middle School activity period. Check the arts calendar to learn about upcoming performances.
