Mavericks prey on the Panthers

The Mavs traveled to play the Panthers from Presbyterian for the second time in 2 weeks and returned home with another shut out victory.

Carl Bernicker got the boys on the board first with an unassisted goal at the 5:25 mark of the opening quarter. Cade Shanks added an unassisted goal of his own after stealing a clearing pass to up the score to 2-0 with 4:45 remaining in the quarter.  Preston Neal took over from there to score two (2) consecutive goals to round out the scoring in the quarter with Mavs leading 4-0.

Hudson Barineau got his name on the scorer's sheet by dropping in two (2) goals in the opening 4 minutes of the second period to stretch the lead to 6-0.  Jake Peacock followed up on an assist from Sam Elkins to give the boys a touchdown lead, and Carl Bernicker finished off the half on another unassisted goal to increase the lead to 8-0 and close out the scoring for the half.

The Mavs mixed it up in the second half with Thomas Dawson sitting in for William Trieschman in goal with the charge of maintaining the shut out.  Dawson did his job while Carl Bernicker added his third goal of the game and Grant Patterson dropped in a shot on a feed from Bernicker to up the lead to 10-0.

The highlight of the game came in the forth quarter when the Sams hooked up for the final goal of the game.  Sam Shepherd fed Sam Elkins on the crease to give Elkins his first goal of the season and round out the scoring with the Mavs victorious 11-0 over the Panthers.

The Mavs quickly return to action on Thursday in their final game of the season when they travel to ROBS to take on the Raiders at 445pm.  Come watch them play!
