Middle School History Teacher (starting August 2024)

We are looking for passionate educators to join our community who know how to support middle school students and are committed to teaching the whole child. The ideal history teacher engages in varied pedagogical approaches to teaching and learning while understanding differentiated instruction. We seek teachers who have the flexibility to teach any middle school history-level course, understand the importance of developing student research skills, and value working in a highly collaborative teaching and learning environment. Candidates should be comfortable working with students with a range of academic capabilities and be open to their continued professional growth. We seek individuals who support the school’s Mission and its Precepts and Principles.

St. John’s School seeks individuals passionate about teaching and learning who are excited by collaborating with colleagues and supporting students' intellectual curiosity and social-emotional development. We are interested in supporting faculty who see themselves as lifelong learners interested in innovation in curriculum and who model a love of history and discovery for our students. We expect community members to engage in conversations that support ongoing professional development in their disciplines, embrace interdisciplinary opportunities, and help further our school’s strategic initiatives, including community and inclusion. 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach a course load of 4 sections of History(US History and Civics, Reconstruction to the present)
  • Serve as an advisor for 12-14 students annually and guide and support the Social-Emotional Learning program.
  • Work as a collaborative member of a grade-level and departmental team.
  • Participate in a weeklong, grade-level overnight trip annually
  • Engage in shared middle school responsibilities and duties, including our DaVinci activity periods and study halls.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in history, social studies, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum three years of prior, relevant classroom teaching experience teaching middle school students.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, faculty, staff, administrators, and the community.
  • An understanding and demonstrated commitment to competency in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Proficient in using technology, including Promethean Boards and the Google platform.
