Coach Craig Chambers Ends Career with 7th SPC Championship

After serving the St. John’s School Community as a member of the Athletic Department Staff for nineteen years, including the last fourteen as the Head Coach of our Varsity Field Hockey program, Coach Craig Chambers has decided to step down from his role.  The Mavericks concluded the 2019 season with an overall record of 18-2 and captured the program's 7th SPC championship under the leadership of Coach Chambers.

St. John’s Field Hockey ended the 2019 season ranked 7th in the Max Preps Regional High School rankings. This past season, the team was the only school from Texas invited to participate in the Max Field Hockey National Invitational in Conshohocken, Pa. Notably, the 2018 and 2019 teams had the best two-year run by compiling an overall record of 36-2-2 and winning back-to-back SPC Championships.

The home-field advantage that the program has enjoyed on both Caven Field & Finnegan Field has been remarkable.  Over Coach Chambers' career, the team has accumulated an overall record of 105-3-2, including a 32-0 record on the upgraded Finnegan Field since 2016. Coach Chambers ends his tenure as our head coach with an overall record of 278-44-33. In addition, many players under his guidance have gone on to compete successfully at the NCAA Division 1 and Division 3 levels.

The Maverick Athletic Department congratulates Coach Chambers on a fabulous career at St. John’s.  The entire school community extends its deepest appreciation for his years of service.

A search for Coach Chambers' successor will begin immediately.
