Christy Haubegger ’86

Christy is an Agent at Creative Artists Agency (CAA), a leading entertainment and sports agency with offices in Los Angeles, New York, London, Nashville, and Beijing, where she provides insights on diverse markets to the agency’s clients and buyers. She is based in the Los Angeles office, and works closely with such clients as Salma Hayek, Eva Longoria, Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Andy Garcia, and America Ferrera, among others. Christy gave the commencement address during St. John’s School’s 2018 Commencement ceremony.
Born and raised in Houston, Christy is the Mexican-American daughter of adoptive parents. After graduating from St. John’s, she received her B.A. in philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin, and her J.D. from Stanford Law School, where she was elected president of her class.

Christy founded Latina magazine in 1996, upon graduating from law school. In 2001, she oversaw the launch of the website www.latina.com and the publication of LATIN BEAUTY (Hyperion), a comprehensive beauty and wellness guidebook for Hispanic women.

Hoping to expand the presence and stories of Latinos in television, Christy moved into the world of entertainment. She served as Associate Producer on Chasing Papi, a romantic comedy with a Hispanic theme/cast, and was Executive Producer of Oscar-winner James L. Brooks’ romantic comedy, Spanglish. A pioneer for Latinas, Christy has received numerous awards and media recognition for her achievements. Recently, The Hollywood Reporter featured her on its list of the Most Powerful Latinos in Hollywood.

Christy is a board member of Management Leadership for Tomorrow (www.ml4t.org), an organization that works to increase the number of minority MBA candidates at the nation's top business schools. In 2009, she was appointed by President Obama to the President’s Commission on White House Fellows. In addition, she is a volunteer for various civic, social, and political organizations.

In her 2018 commencement speech, Christy describes a particularly challenging paper she wrote her senior year at St. John's in Anthony Sirignano’s philosophy class that covered the “Symbolic Elements of Plato’s Republic”. This challenging paper, which then earned a B+ grade, later earned an A in Christy’s philosophy class at the University of Texas at Austin. Christy credits St. John’s School and Mr. Sirignano for driving her passion in philosophy, prompting her to earn a "marketable" degree in philosophy, which helped fuel her career.
