LS Parent-Teacher Conferences (Noon Dismissal for K-5 Students)
The first formal opportunity for conferences will be on October 1st and 2nd. Students will be dismissed at noon on Thursday (10/1) and will not have school on Friday (10/2). Given the nature of our partnership in supporting young children, we prefer that all LS conferences occur in-person. All conferences should happen in these two days that have been set aside; please refrain from requesting that your child's teacher meet with you at another time. Once again, we will utilize the Pick-a-Time online scheduler. Be on the lookout for a push page with instructions on how to reserve your conference slot. -
St. John's Singers Retreat, Day 1
St. John's Singers will have their annual retreat in two parts on October 1st and 2nd. Singers will need to bring a lunch from home on Thursday. We will enjoy lunch together and begin our rehearsals and team-building activities afterward. Students can be picked up from the carpool line at 3:30pm on Thursday. -

St. John's Singers Retreat, Day 2
St. John's Singers will have their annual retreat in two parts on October 1st and 2nd. On Friday, students should arrive at 8:30am and head to the music rooms. Around 11:45, we will head to Urban Air for pizza, go-karts, trampolines, and more! We will return to the school around 3:00, and students should be picked up in the carpool lane by 3:30. -

Maverick Madness Spirit Day
All LS students are invited to wear as much red and black as possible for Maverick Madness Spirit Day! -
C4/C5 Red & Black Track Meet
All parents of Class 4 and Class 5 students are welcome to attend the Red & Black Track Meet from 10:00-11:30. Students will be assigned to either the red or black team and should wear a t-shirt in that color with black athletic shorts, socks, and sneakers. Please see pages 32-33 of the handbook for out-of-uniform guidelines. Students should bring a large, spill-proof water bottle for the day. (No cups with straws, please!) -
LS Advisory Pictures and Retakes
Advisory pictures will be taken on October 15th. Please make sure your child is aware and takes care of their appearance. They may wear any Lower School uniform of choice.
Individual make-ups and retakes will be taken on the same day. If your child would like to retake their individual photos, please send their packet of photos back to school with them. -

C2 Dumpling Day
Dumpling Day is a celebratory event that culminates our first social studies unit: community. Our students are learning how diverse cultures influence the makeup of our community- essential people and places including restaurants, places of worship, museums, hospitals, entertainment venues, grocery stores, etc. Dumplings, or a variation of dumplings, are enjoyed across many cultures, and we’ve created Dumpling Day to explore the beauty of cultural diversity, to appreciate our differences, and to realize just how much we all have in common.
This special day invites Class Two families to provide a dumpling dish they feel represents their family’s culture. Examples include: ravioli (Italy), gyoza (Japan), pierogi (Central & Eastern Europe), tamale (Mexico), kroppkaka (Sweden), kreplach (Israel), empanada (South America), luqaimat (Middle East), apple dumpling (America), and samosa (South & Central Asia).
Dumpling Day is a student-only event that will take place in our classroom from 2:00-3:00 p.m. Should you choose to prepare or purchase a dish, please bring a large enough sampling to share with at least 16 friends and a card saying what it is, country of origin, and when it’s enjoyed in your family/culture. Please also note if nuts (or other common allergens) are included in your dish. Please do not send something that needs to be refrigerated or reheated. All food drop-offs should be delivered to the classroom before 1:45 p.m. -
Kindergarten Field Trip to The Oil Ranch
Please have your child wear jeans or black bottoms, a red uniform shirt or red SJS t-shirt, and sneakers with socks. (They may be more comfortable in pants on the hayride and pony rides.) They will also need a completely disposable lunch, as everything will be thrown away at the end of lunch. No reusable containers besides a water bottle, please! -
Lower School Gives Back
All Lower School students will be involved in a hands-on service project during the school day. If you signed up as a volunteer for this event, please watch for an email from Julie Ballew with all of the info about your child’s grade-level project. -

C2/C3/C4 Halloween Parties
Students in Classes 2, 3, and 4 will have a Halloween Party in their classrooms. Students will play a game, have a treat, complete a craft, and listen to a festive story. We kindly ask that only those parents who signed up to volunteer are in attendance. -
K/C1/C5 Chapel Chum Halloween Fun
Kindergarten, Class One, and Class Five students will participate in a joint Halloween celebration with games, refreshments and a mini costume parade. -
