Parents' Guild Volunteer Opportunities
All School Book Fair & Family Night
This year's "Camp Book Fair: S'More Fun with Reading" will be held in Flores Hall on Wednesday, October 10, and Thursday, October 11. Book Fair Family Night, which features visiting and community authors, music, and a delectable meal for the whole family, will be held in Flores Hall and on the Great Lawn on Thursday, October 11. Lower and Middle School students will hear from our visiting author and will have a scheduled opportunity to visit the fair with their classes and advisors. Parent volunteers are needed to set up the fair, organize displays, assist children with book selections, facilitate Family Night, and break down the fair. 
Time commitment: Most volunteer shifts for Book Fair are approximately 1-2.5 hours

Cares & Concerns
Volunteers provide assistance to parent members of the Middle School community that need support due to challenging or extraordinary circumstances such as an injury, illness, or death in the family. Volunteers may be asked to provide meals, transportation, or other forms of assistance on an as-needed basis. This committee provides us an opportunity to help those within our own community.
Time commitment: Varies depending on the need, but typically is minimal

If you are looking for a thought-provoking and uplifting start to your day, please volunteer with Middle School chapel in the mornings once every rotation. Scheduling is flexible and completed on a quarterly basis. Volunteer responsibilities include helping robe the acolytes, accompanying students to the sanctuary, and reviewing the order of the service. Volunteers also help with the storage and maintenance of robes. You will be awed by the incredible experiences and abilities of the teachers, students, and guests you will meet.
Time commitment: Approximately 1 hour every rotation throughout the quarter

Faculty/Staff Appreciation
Represent the parent community and show appreciation for our incredible Middle School faculty and staff by volunteering to provide them a delicious spread of food. There will be an appreciation lunch on the January Parent-Teacher Conference Day.
Time commitment: Approximately 1 hour per event

Volunteers are needed to help the librarians in a variety of ways, including shelving books, handling periodicals, and working at the circulation desk. You will also have the chance to work on special projects throughout the year, particularly after the Book Fair. Training is provided by the Chair.
Time commitment: Shifts are 1 hour per week for one or more quarters, or specifically for Book Fair processing.

MS Parent Mixer at Varsity Football
Enjoy mixing it up with an exciting evening of sports competition and Middle School parent fellowship at a Mavericks Varsity Football game. A variety of volunteers are needed to bring food, help set up and clean up under Big Red.

Seasonal Decorations
Calling all creative and crafty volunteers to decorate the Middle School reception area for seasonal months, holidays, or special occasions. Share your design eye and helpful hands to transform the hallways for the students and community.
Time commitment: Approximately 1-2 hours for decorating. Volunteers may sign up for a specific time commitment or select from dates throughout the school year.

Special Olympics
Volunteers are needed to implement the MS Special Olympics Track Meet in April. This event is hosted annually by SJS Middle School and requires more than 200 parent and student volunteers. Parents volunteer during the planning process and at the meet itself alongside students. The Special Olympics Committee is a wonderful opportunity to give back to our community and actively demonstrate values of compassion and service to our students while being surrounded by inspirational athletes.
Time commitment: Varies depending upon the volunteer shift. Volunteers are needed before the event to assist the Chair (up to 5 hours) and day-of-event (typically 1-3 hours throughout the day . May include set up, clean up, decorations, starting line, finishing line, awards, etc.

Textbook Distribution
Welcome back students and parents while reminiscing about summer vacations during Textbook Distribution. Volunteers are needed a few days leading up to the event to assist alphabetizing boxes of completed book orders from the Bookstore. Actual day-of-event shifts available for volunteers to staff tables and distribute textbooks and supplies. Make this a family event and bring your students. They will enjoy helping out and catching up before school begins. Textbook Distribution is on Friday, August 10, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. in Middle School, Rooms G127 and G130.
Time commitment: Varied times to assist Chairs with organizing before the event. Approximately 3 hour shifts on day of event.

Used Uniform
Volunteers help with monthly Used Uniform sales and with the larger beginning- and end-of-school sales, all of which benefit the St. John’s Scholarship Fund. Volunteers may purchase uniforms before the sale and during sale set-up. Occasional help may be needed to maintain the Used Uniform Closet, which is located in the Quadrangle of the Upper School campus. Regular monthly sales take place the first Friday of each month from 7:30-9:00 a.m. 
Time commitment: approximately 1 hour for each sale event and time as needed for closet maintenance
