USA Field Hockey will be on campus at Finnegan Field this weekend (January 20-22). The U17 and U19 National teams are coming for practices which they do periodically in places that have sanctioned facilities and that are mutually convenient given that players come from all over. They'll be practicing on the newly turfed Finnegan Field from noon to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.
This is the second stop for a series of USA Field Hockey training sessions across the country. The last event was in Pennsylvania. The next gathering will be in North Carolina followed by a return trip to Pennsylvania.
"This place is unbelievable," said USA U-17 Head Coach Jarred Martin. "We want to thank St. John's for hosting USA Field Hockey. The weather can't be beat and this is a top notch facility that D1, D2, and D3 schools would like to have."
Martin is the Associate Head Coach at Duke University, and was one of Sarah Urdahl's '12 coaches during her collegiate career.
"In the last five years Texas field hockey has been growing exponentially," said Martin. "It is good to see high schools and clubs offering the sport."
