Maverick Boys' Basketball is off to a 2-0 start in SPC play due in part to 78 combined points from Cliff Guidry '18. The junior combo guard put up 38 against St. Stephen's for a 53-46 SPC opening win. A week later Guidry followed up with 40 against John Cooper to help the Mavericks prevail 78-57. St. John's plays at Episcopal (3-0) in their next SPC counter on Friday, January 20.
One of three captains on the team, Guidry is shooting 44% for the season from three point land.
"This is the best start ever of any player at SJS in league play," said Head Coach Harold Baber regarding Guidry.
According to Baber, all three captains are leading by example. Captain Daniel Perrier '17 put up a career high 21 points against Cooper and captain Jiries Ganim '17 has a four to one assist to turnover ratio this season.
"We are playing our best basketball at the right time of the year," said Baber. "Our tough schedule has helped our team grow up quickly. The ship is pointed in the right direction, but we are still not where we want to be."
