Even as storms swirled around Dallas/Fort Worth on Friday, the 2016 Spring SPC Championships continued on.  St. John's took full advantage of the opportunity netting three SPC titles in Girls' Lacrosse, Softball, and Boys' Track & Field. After an hour and a half lightning delay, Girl's Lacrosse won their semi-final game 19-9 over Hockaday. The score was 13-6 at the half when the siren sounded.  St. John's did not miss a step in the second half pulling away from the Daisies and running out the clock.  St. John's faced ESD in the championship game on Saturday.  A highly anticipated rematch from last year's overtime victory, the Mavericks did not make it as close this time. St. John's took a 9-1 lead at the half and did not look back winning a 13th consecutive SPC/State title 12-3 over the Eagles.  Baseball lost their opener and to mother nature, closing out the season in Fort Worth.  Boys' Tennis took 5th place winning 3-2 vs Casady while Girls' Tennis lost in the SPC Championship finals vs host Hockaday. Softball won their opener against John Cooper and followed up with a 2-0 win over Houston Christian to reach their fourth consecutive SPC Championship game. The Mavericks won the rematch against EHS, the 2015 champs, beating the Knights 2-1. After Track & Field adjusted the preliminary heats to qualify for the finals by time, the Boys' took off with Trey Lewis' '16 6' 7" first place in the high jump, and a first place in the the 4 by 100 meter relay.  After Boys' T & F trailed St. Mark's by four points going into the final race of the day, the 4 by 400 meter relay, the Mavericks finished second in the race to St. Mark's fifth place finish, gaining 8 points over the Lions for a four point margin of victory 128-124. Girls' T & F finished third overall.  Isabelle Paine '17 won the 300 meter hurdles breaking the SPC championship record in 43.81 seconds.
