Campbell Set to Raise the Bar

Sam Chambers
Just a week after adding “dad” to his resume, Virgil Campbell has been named the full-time Director of Strength & Conditioning at St. John's School. Having held the position on a part time basis since 2007, Coach Campbell will take the reins full time beginning July 1, 2012.
A former strength and conditioning coach for the Houston Texans, Houston Comets, and San Francisco 49ers, Coach Campbell’s full time presence will raise the bar for all the St. John’s Athletic programs.
“The impetus for athletic success can be directly attributable to the physical development of athletes,” said Athletic Director, Vince Arduini. “Having a full-time person solely responsible for this important area is a giant step toward providing our athletes a unique training experience on campus.”
As he does in his present role, Coach Campbell will coordinate in-season and off-season strength programs for Upper and Middle School Athletic teams. Starting fall 2012 he will teach a required Physical Education Strength Training class for 9th and 10th grade students and offer a strength training Physical Education elective for 11th and 12th grade students. Beginning in July Coach Campbell will establish a comprehensive Summer Program for all athletes in grades 7-12.
Please join the Athletic Department in welcoming this brand new father to his expanded role in the St. John’s family. Both of his new titles have lots of potential for learning and growth, and Coach Campbell has proven that he knows how to help young people get stronger, systematically.
