While Reed Daniel ('10) of Sewanee and Edward Williams, 5 ('09) of Southwestern were going head to head on the lacrosse field in a SCAC counter, Bryce Hollingsworth ('09) was gliding on the Malden River for the Wesleyan Cardinal Crew.
Hollingsworth races on the first boat for the Cardinals and his boat came in first place against Coast Guard on Saturday, March 26th. A week later he crossed the line again in first place, this time against WPI, Middlebury, and U Mass.
Meanwhile boys’ lacrosse alumni Daniel and Williams, who played together from 2007-2009, went head to head in Georgetown, Texas in a SCAC counter on March 20th. Daniel’s Tigers won the game 10-5, but Williams’ Pirates made a significant showing.
“Last year we got beat really badly so we were looking for some redemption,” said Williams. “At the starting line up I was face to face with Reed which was great. We didn't quite pull out a win but the game was a lot closer than last season and it really gives us hope for the future.”
“It was a fun experience getting to play on the same field with a former teammate,” said Daniel. “After playing with Ed for 3 years at St. John's it was interesting to finally get a chance to play against him. In the end both of our teams played hard and well until the final whistle and I look forward to our rematch next season."
Both teams advanced the inaugural SCAC tournament, but it wasn't easy for Southwestern. In a must win game on Sunday, April 17, the Pirates defeated the Warriors of Hendrix in double OT to make the 4-team field hosted by Colorado College. Williams stuck the game winner.
Daniel's Tigers and and Williams' Pirates made an impressive showing at the SCAC conference tournament, but both teams came up short of the championship game.
Look for the Williams-Daniel rematch in Sewanee next year!
