Tim Otey ('11) flew by Ethan Glass ('80) for the school record in the long jump.
While a few records hold their own weight through time including Towner Reynolds' ('60) shot put throw of 54' 8", the first of the 1980's records to drop was the boys' long jump.  On Friday, April 8th at the Texas Relays in Austin, Tim Otey broke Ethan Glass' 1980 long jump record (22'-2") with a overall 3rd best jump in Austin of 22' 8 3/4".  Otey finished first in the B division, but his record jump was the third best out of the A competitors.   Other notable records from the 1980's which have yet to be broken include Jay Kempner's ('82) 10.96 time in the 100 meters and David Barndollar's ('84) 200 meter (22.26) and 400 meter (49.46)runs.  Glass still holds the high jump record of 6'10", and John Amonett ('88) has yet to give up his discus toss of 160' 8". Stephen Kaestner ('87) holds the 300 meter intermediate hurdle record of 39.58 and shares his 110 hurdle mark of 14.7 seconds along with Matt Hill ('00).   The 1987 relay team of  Pagogh Cho, Carlos Higginbotham, Kaestner, and Shannon Touchstone still stands along with 1985 4 x 400 meter relay record of 3:21.81 set by Will Hooper, Philip Cannon, Brady Lum, and Mitch Blake.  The 1989 4 x 800 meter relay time of 8:08.17 is still held by John Eikenburg, Jon Schube, Stefan Vest, and William Coats.   Laura Wilson ('84) still holds the 1600 and 3200 meter records of 5:03.3 and 11:03.6 respectively, while the 1985 sprint medley relay team of Laura Van Os, Elizabeth Kormeieer, Jennifer Fry, and Kim Barndollar have yet to relinquish their record time of 1:57.38 seconds.
