Catherine Franklin ('10) of Northwestern (Big Ten) squared off against former teammate, Paige Hawley ('10) of Colgate (Patriot League), in NCAA Field Hockey! Looks like their friendship is still intact as Franklin's Wildcats out shoot the Raiders by 34.
Krissy Incavo (‘10) and Ali Berkman (’09), both at Colgate ('14 and '13), were in the stands to cheer for their friends and former teammates.
The 2009 Maverick Field Hockey co-captains take the stage at the Division 1 level. The former teammates were on the SPC championship field hockey team in 2008 and played lacrosse for the Mavericks.
Franklin, fresh off her first goal against Iowa last week, is factoring into the Wildcat offense according to the Northwestern coaching staff. "Catherine has shown herself to be very versatile and able to help her team's offense in a variety of ways. She really absorbed everything we taught her during preseason camp so I expect her to contribute on the field immediately," said Head Coach Tracey Fuchs.
Hawley also plays offense for the Colgate Raiders after anchoring a stalwart defense for St. John's. "The field hockey team at Colgate is amazing. The team and I are excited and ready to take on the Wildcats and I can't wait to see and play against one of my closest friends! It will be a great game to watch," said Paige.
According to Franklin that friendship will be intact after the game especially if the Wildcats win. "I bet on our friendship that Northwestern wins," quipped Franklin.
