St. John’s Fine Arts Department proudly presents The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, with music and lyrics by Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg, and background music by Herbert Stothart. In this classic tale, Dorothy, a Kansas farm girl who dreams of escaping her mundane life, is whisked away by a tornado to the magical land of Oz. Dorothy and her loyal dog Toto set off to find the powerful Wizard of Oz in hopes that he may have the power to send her back home. With the aid of new friends she encounters along the way, Dorothy must overcome the Wicked Witch of the West and the many obstacles in her way before she can return to Kansas.

Alex Arizpe directs the cast of 65 Middle School students with assistance from Alice Fogler. Brendan Emig directs the music, and Brooke Wilson leads the choreography. Teresa Fogler designed the costumes. Shawn St. John, the sound director, and Edgar Guajardo, the lighting director, have been working with the Shortcake and Johnnycake crews on sets and technical support for the production.
