Sabrina Hu ’19 Awarded Gates Cambridge Scholarship

SJS alumna Sabrina Hu ’19 was recently awarded a Gates Cambridge Scholarship for postgraduate study and research at the University of Cambridge. She is one of 23 American students selected. Sabrina's personal experience with Hurricane Ike inspired her passion for chemistry and research, motivating her to combat climate change.

Sabrina is currently a senior at Washington University in St. Louis, majoring in chemistry and in history, and minoring in mathematics in arts & sciences. In addition, Sabrina is a 2022 Barry M. Goldwater Scholar and serves as a carbon neutrality intern at the Office of Sustainability. As a former aspirational peer mentor for the Deneb STARTS program, Sabrina continues to serve as a tutor at two St. Louis area high schools.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation established the prestigious postgraduate scholarship program in 2000 with a donation of $210 million to the University of Cambridge. In addition to academic achievement, the program values social leadership in its selection process and aims to create a network of future leaders committed to improving the lives of others.

Congratulations to Sabrina on this exceptional achievement and best wishes on her future endeavors at Cambridge!
