St. John's wrestlers attended the NHSCA (National High School Coaches Association) Duals held at the Virginia Beach on Memorial Day weekend. The Virginia Beach Convention Center was set up with 58 mats to host over 5400 wrestlers. Coach Paul's squad won two and lost four matches. Wyatt Cyprow, Ken Matsunaga, Michael Daichman, Sebastian Jimenez, Thomas Grannen, Wesley Gow, and Roman Lewis represented the Mavericks.
In addition to making the state playoffs, St. John's Girls' and Boys' Lacrosse fared well in the postseason awards for the TGHSLL and THSLL respectively. TGHSLLAll-State accolades went toAlexandra Lewis and Avery Morris. For the Boys', Charles Sampson was selected as a US Lacrosse All-American, the ninth St. John's Boys' Lacrosse player to receive the honor. THSLL All-State honors went to Brock Cannon and Charles Sampson. Finally, second-year Head Coach David Cohn was selected as the THSLL Coach of the Year. Congratulations, Maverick Lacrosse!
Varsity teams compete in the Southwest Preparatory Conference Tournament at the end of each season. The SPC is comprised of 19 accredited independent schools. St. John's is one of three co-educational schools to participate in all 23 SPC sports, and is the current Directors' Cup holder holder as the top overall athletic program.
Using a multi-disciplinary medical approach, St. John's School Sports Medicine staff strives to provide the most up-to-date care, prevention, and rehabilitation for our student athletes. When applicable, St. John's Sports Medicine staff provides injury prevention education, pre- and post-operative rehabilitation, and daily sports medical care. The St. John's athletic training room houses state-of-the-art modalities, equipment, and instrumentation. SJS employs healthcare providers certified and licensed to provide athletic training care and most maintain additional advanced certifications/licenses.
