Justise Winslow '14 - "Best Version of Me"

Justise Winslow ’14 was warmly welcomed back to campus on Thursday as guest speaker during the Upper School assembly. Former Duke NBAA Champion and current player for the NBA Miami Heat, Winslow gave a presentation entitled “Best Version of Me.” Winslow talked about his time at St. John’s, then Duke, and now as a member of the Miami Heat and the journey to understand self-identity and creating the balance between self-happiness and self-peace. Winslow encouraged students to “do what makes you happy” which is he says is “physical, emotional, and spiritual” while reiterating that “health is wealth.” Acknowledging his success on the basketball court, he also opened up about his journey thus far and the challenges he has faced personally. Winslow emphasized to students that “you are your best friend, best critic, and best motivator” and that a “life of significance is more valuable than a life of success.” Winslow closed by saying “[when I was a student] I always wanted to say this: you are dismissed!”
