St. John's Boys' Lacrosse opened up the 2018 SPC Lacrosse tournament with a 19-1 win over St. Stephen's School. The #1 SPC South Mavericks advanced to the semi-finals against St. Mark's School of Dallas losing 16-4. In the third place game, John's faced off against Kinkaid with the Falcons prevailing 14-7. The tournament was hosted by St. Andrew's School of Austin.
Michael Urdahl '18 signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play volleyball for the UCSD Tritons next fall. Urdahl is the first NLI signee for St. John's Boys' Volleyball and will become the first player in the program to compete at the NCAA level. UCSD plays in the Big West Conference.
Shelbi Irvin has been named Varsity Head Coach for the St. John’s School Girls’ Volleyball program. Shelbi has served as an assistant coach for the Mavericks and is a master level coach with Houston Juniors Volleyball, the top-ranked club in the Houston area. Shelbi earned All-American accolades in high school and was listed as one of the top 150 volleyball players in the country in 2007. A three-year captain and assist leader, she helped guide Texas State University to three Sun Belt Conference Championships and two D1 NCAA tournament appearances. Please welcome Coach Irwin in her new role at St. John’s.
Varsity teams compete in the Southwest Preparatory Conference Tournament at the end of each season. The SPC is comprised of 19 accredited independent schools. St. John's is one of three co-educational schools to participate in all 23 SPC sports, and is the current Directors' Cup holder holder as the top overall athletic program.
Using a multi-disciplinary medical approach, St. John's School Sports Medicine staff strives to provide the most up-to-date care, prevention, and rehabilitation for our student athletes. When applicable, St. John's Sports Medicine staff provides injury prevention education, pre- and post-operative rehabilitation, and daily sports medical care. The St. John's athletic training room houses state-of-the-art modalities, equipment, and instrumentation. SJS employs healthcare providers certified and licensed to provide athletic training care and most maintain additional advanced certifications/licenses.
